It's a Tiny Star New Year!

Today we celebrated the Sinhala / Tamil New Year with the most precious ones at the Dehiwela Community Concern Center in Sri Lanka. We started the Tiny Star preschool, one of our outreach programs to the poor, 30 years ago to meet a pressing need in the seaside slum on the outskirts of Colombo. We discovered a lot of school age kids who weren't able to attend public school. Instead, they were required to look after their younger siblings for the day. So, we opened the Morning Star School for kids who had never gone, and subsequently needed to provide a place for their younger brothers and sisters...Tiny Star Preschool was born!

We have a wonderful staff who love these kids so much. It's a joy and a real blessing to watch them learn to trust and blossom...

I love portraits and took the opportunity to collect a few of the wee ones who got all dressed up for the occasion...

LET THERE BE LIGHT

I love the light, the source and the reflected.

Unless you are sun gazing (a really good practice) we are seeing reflections all the time... 

The thing about studio photography is we are starting from scratch, creating the source and developing infinite lighting options as we go... not to mention collaborating with the subject of our attention (the model) creating once again infinite opportunities capturing moments in time. It's a dance for sure.

Lovely Chrys Piorina Fernando graciously accommodated me experimenting with a variety of lighting setups. Enjoy some of the fruits of our labor...
