Swarna Mallawarachchi... Glory Days
Sriyani and I had the pleasure of getting to know Swarna during a photo shoot for a Sri Lankan calendar in the 1980's. We became friends and had lots of fun during subsequent assignments. As you can see, Swarna is beautiful and extremely photogenic, but she was most famous those days for her acting skills recognized as one of the finest dramatic actors during the height of Sri Lankan cinema...a true artist. With little experience shooting portraits or working with models at the time, I didn't fully realize what a gifted talent she was. She had the rare skill and ability to project personality in the moment and confidently connect with the camera as you can see...what a treat. These pix were shot on film, btw... Enjoy
tip of the hat, Swarna

COWBOY UP!
Last summer Nebraska hosted the 74th annual National High School Rodeo Finals, the world's largest rodeo at the Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln. World class championship competitions were hosted for both boys and girls in a variety of events. I came to find out that ninety seven percent of today's rodeo professionals were once high school champions. Little did most of us realize, we were watching the budding stars of tomorrow.
There is something very special about displaying confidence and skill or facing real life danger on the back of a horse or a raging bull. Here is a taste of the wild, wild west plus a pinch of the tender side...

I'm Gullible...
...swift and spectacular as a Seagull
As far away as possible from either seacoast and as unusual as it seems, here on the Great Plains in the Midwest we have yearly visits from flocks of Ring Billed Seagulls. I tracked these clever migrants to a nearby lake not far from my own nesting place. Strong and graceful, they are a delight to watch maneuver. It's been said, eagles are seagulls with a good hairdo. With a soaring wingspan they do move with the same kind of grace and acrobatic beauty. Here are some of their poses they shared with me.
fly by shooting,
thanks for stopping by,
see you next year...
